How do I verify that it hailed on a specific date?
Pick your county and the date above. The lookup searches every hail event recorded for that county in the NOAA Storm Events Database — the same public record insurers and roofers reference — and shows sizes and storm-report narratives when they were filed.
The lookup shows nothing for my date. Does that mean it didn't hail?
Not necessarily. The database contains what was reported to the National Weather Service: small or brief hail often goes unfiled, sparse counties under-report, and recent storms take a few weeks to appear (records here currently run through April 2026). The lookup also shows the nearest recorded events, since memories of storm dates are often a day or two off.
Can I use this for an insurance claim?
You can use it to check the public record — that's what it's for. But HailHistory doesn't give insurance advice or establish damage: hail varies block by block, and your insurer will verify independently. If you suspect damage, talk to your insurer or a licensed roofer.
What date range does the record cover?
The Storm Events Database runs from 1950; hail events appear from 1955 onward. NCEI updates it monthly, and this site's copy currently includes events through April 2026.
